WKU Cross Country Finishes Up Action at Live in Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – WKU Cross Country wrapped up action Saturday afternoon at the Live In Lou Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.

50 teams competed in the women's race on Saturday afternoon. In the men's race the Hilltoppers were one of 48 teams competing.

The women finished up in fifth place in the 5K race while the men's squad finished 19th in the 8K race.

For the third consecutive meet this season, freshmen led the way for both the men and women. Jared Sandfoss led the men with a time of 26:48. Kinley Kunkel once again led the women with a time of 19:26. The duo have been the top finishers for each team in all three meets this season.

Sophomore Rowan Wilkinson beat his previous personal best in the 8K by 10 seconds, finishing in 28:05. Kynzlei Bassett, the sophomore from Buckner, Ky., improved her 5K time by 31 seconds.

In the men's race there were 389 competitors in total. In the women's race there were exactly 400 competing.

On the impressively large field, Head Coach Ron Becht said "It was one of the biggest meets most have ever competed in with around 400 athletes in the races. They learned a lot about running through and navigating large crowds."

The Hilltoppers will travel to the Hoosier State for the Angel Mounds Invitational on Friday, October 13. The meet will be hosted by the University of Evansville.
