BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Cross Country is set to compete in the Angel Mounds Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13.
The meet will take place at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course in Evansville, Ind. The meet will be hosted by the University of Evansville. This marks the second time this season WKU has competed in a meet hosted by a MVC team.
On preparing for this week's meet, Head Coach Ron Becht said "It's our final race before the conference championship. We will be looking for a smart, solid effort on a very fast, flat course."
The women's squad will open the meet with a 6K beginning at 9:00 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 8K at 10:00 a.m. CT.
Last time out, WKU competed in the Live in Lou Classic. The women's team had one of their best overall finishes of the season finishing in fifth place out of fifty teams.Â
Jared Sandfoss led the men with a time of 26:48. Kinley Kunkel once again led the women with a time of 19:26. For the women, five Hilltoppers finished in the top 100 out of the nearly 400 competitors in the race.
Following the Angel Mounds Invitational, the Hilltoppers will host the CUSA Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28. The meet will be held at Hobson Grove Park.
Meet Notes
- This will mark the first time since 2019 WKU competed in a meet hosted by the University of Evansville.
- The meet marks the first time this season the Hilltoppers will run on a course designed solely for cross country. The course was designed in 2014 and was the host for the 2015 MVC Championships.
- Freshmen in front: In all three meets this season newcomers Jared Sandfoss and Kinley Kunkel have led the way for both squads.
- WKU will host this season's CUSA Championships at Hobson Grove Park on Saturday, Oct. 28.
