LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Hilltopper Softball program is set to open its season at the 21st edition of the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic that will take place Feb 8-11 at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The four-day showcase of collegiate softball features 17 programs from 12 different conferences.
The Tops are scheduled to open their season against Missouri State on Friday, Feb. 9 at 12 p.m. CT. They will then split the Friday doubleheader to face 2023 NISC (National Invitational Softball Championship) winner Iowa at 3 p.m. CT. On Saturday, Feb. 10, WKU will start out a doubleheader facing Army-West Point at 9 a.m. CT, then the Wolfpack of NC State at 12 p.m. CT.
The Hilltoppers will cap off the opening classic facing Kansas at 12 p.m. CT at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater.
This marks the sixth consecutive tournament in Clearwater (2012-14, 2020, 2023, 2024). The first 15 tournaments were held in Columbus, Ga., from 1996 through 2010. Michigan has captured the most Leadoff titles with three, while Louisiana and Washington (won the inaugural in 1996) have each won twice.
