BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU men's basketball travels across the northern border this week for the Northern Classic in Laval, Quebec, Canada. The Hilltoppers enter the tournament in Quebec with a 3-1 record following wins over Murray State and Kentucky State last week and will face three opponents over the span of three days, including Bowling Green, Canisius and UNC Asheville from Nov. 24-26.

The 2023-24 CampaignÂ
Hilltopper Basketball improved to 3-1 last week after securing an 86-81 win over Murray State on Tuesday, and a 95-75 win over Kentucky State on Saturday. Don McHenry's performance in each contest highlighted the second week of action for the Tops, as the junior transfer from Indian Hills CC led the team in total scoring with 22 and 13 points respectively. The Milwaukee, Wis. native has posted double-digit point totals in three consecutive games for the Tops.Â
Brandon Newman finished as the team's leading scorer against Kentucky State on Saturday. The Purdue transfer tallied 17 total points to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double. Freshman Teagan Moore led the Tops' bench in scoring with a 13-point performance.
Saturday's win over the Thorobreds marked a 50th career win for head coach Steve Lutz. Lutz previously coached Texas A&M Corpus-Christi to a 47-23 record through two seasons at the helm.Â
Series History
vs. Bowling Green
WKU has faced Bowling Green 27 times since the 1949-50 season and leads the series with a 20-7 all-time record. The Tops' last meeting with the Falcons came in 2019 and saw WKU fall, 77-75.
vs. Canisius
The Tops' matchup against Canisius will be the seventh in series history and will mark the first game between the two schools since the 1949-50 season. WKU defeated the Griffs 74-61 on Dec. 26, 1949 at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium.
vs. UNC Asheville
Sunday will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs.Â
WKU opens the tournament facing Bowling Green on Friday, Nov. 24. Tipoff from Place Bell Arena in Laval, Quebec is slated for 6 p.m. CT. The Hilltoppers' second matchup against Canisius is set to tip on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. CT. The team will close the weekend of tournament play at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday morning against UNC Asheville.
