BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The 2023-24 WKU Hilltoppers began fall play defeating Team Ontario on Thursday, October 12 at Nick Denes Field.

Nine different pitchers saw action on the bump for the Tops tonight with newcomer Drew Whalen getting the start. Dylan Mannino relieved Whalen to begin the top of the third and Jace Kirby, Tyler Rardin, Patrick Morris, Elliott Rossell, Adam Wibbenmeyer, Hunter Small, and Zach Lyles followed on the mound throughout the rest of the game. The pitching staff did not surrender a single run in the contest on their way to a shutout victory.

At the plate, Australia native Blake Cavill had the hot bat, launching two three-run home runs over the wall to contribute to the double-digit win while Eli Burwash notched a two-run triple to take the early lead in the bottom of the second.

WKU Baseball will continue fall play this Saturday, October 14 with an exhibition against Southern Indiana beginning at 2 p.m. CT at Nick Denes Field. The event is scheduled for 14 innings and will be open to the public.

The second annual WKU Baseball Alumni Barbecue will be held prior to the game at 1 p.m. CT on the third base party deck. All WKU Baseball Alumni are welcome to attend, enjoy some barbecue, and watch the 2023-24 WKU Hilltoppers.
