GREENVILLE, S.C. – WKU Women's Golf finished the first round of the Lady Paladin Invitational on Friday afternoon. Challenged by the strong field, the Lady Toppers are in 14th as a team after the first 18 holes.
WKU shot 17-over 305 as a squad at the par-72, 6,256-yard Furman University Golf Course. The team is within three shots of the top 10 teams and 11 shots back from the top five.
Junior Rachel Rich led the Lady Topper pack in her home state of South Carolina. She shot a 2-over 74 on Friday, ending her round with a birdie. She's currently two strokes back from the top 15 individuals.
Following Rich in line was freshman Sydney Hackett. She is tied for 40th after posting an opening-round, 4-over 76. Senior Sarah Arnold was behind Hackett with a 5-over 77. She is tied for 50th overall.
WKU's final score of the day was a 6-over 78 as both sophomore Catie Craig and freshman Averi Cline turned in that number. The pair is tied for 59th on the leaderboard.
The Lady Toppers will play the second round of the Invitational on Saturday morning.
