About the Lady Toppers
- The Lady Toppers dropped a 57-50 decision to Cornell last Friday on the road. WKU defeated Miami (Ohio) 91-55 earlier in the week.
- Mya Meredith was the leading scorer for WKU against Cornell with 16 points in just her second game back from injury.
- Aaliyah Pitts was the leading scorer for WKU with 19 points against Miami. In all, six WKU players scored in double figures, including Macey Blevins (14), Josie Gilvin (12), Jaylin Foster (11), Acacia Hayes (10) and Teresa Faustino (10). Foster notched her second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds to go with her 11 points.
- The team is averaging 12.8 steals per game which is the most in C-USA and 19th in the nation. WKU is forcing teams into 23.25 turnovers per game which also leads the league and the 18th highest in the country.
- Greg Collins is in his fifth season as head coach at WKU. An emphasis Collins has put on his teams is 3-point shooting. In 2021-22, the Lady Toppers made 225 threes on the season which is the second most by a WKU team in program history. In fact, four of the top five marks in the record book belong to a team during Collins' tenure at WKU including his days as an assistant coach and associate head coach. The Lady Toppers also tied the school record for most 3-pointers made in a game twice last season, connecting on 14 threes against North Carolina A&T and Middle Tennessee.
- Last season, WKU leaned heavily on a core of freshmen. Those rookies scored 52.3 percent of the team's points for the year and pulled down 45.6 percent of the squad's rebounds. Mya Meredith earned Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors at the end of the season, despite missing the final eight games of the season due to a knee injury. Alexis Mead and Meredith were named to the C-USA All-Freshmen Team as well.
Series History
- WKU and Lipscomb have played three times in the series history. The Lady Toppers own a 3-0 record against the Bison all-time.
- Two of those previous meetings have come in Bowling Green.
- The series began in 1985 and the most recent meeting was Dec. 15, 2016.
Lipscomb Notes
- Lipscomb opened the season with a 69-62 loss to TCU and a 101-95 loss to NKU, before defeating Wilberforce and Mississippi Valley State. The Bison participated in the Bank of Hawaii Classic last week and split their games in the tournament, losing to San Diego and defeating Hawaii.
- Aleah Sorrentino is averaging 18.3 points per game for Lipscomb and Jalyn Holcomb is putting up 16.8 points per game. Bella Vinson is also averaging double figure points at a 12. 5 points per game clip.
- Blythe Pearson is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 8.2 boards per game.
