BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Following Thursday night's Conference USA regular season volleyball championship match and Saturday afternoon's Senior Day, bowl eligibility-determining football game, WKU Hilltopper Basketball will take on the Kentucky State Thorobreds in its home opener for the 2022-23 season.
The game will tip off at 6 p.m. CT inside E.A. Diddle Arena, and fans who show their football ticket will receive a $10 bleacher seat ticket. Military members are also able to claim free tickets through our Seats for Soldiers program. The game will not be broadcasted.
The Hilltoppers opened the regular season at Eastern Kentucky and returned home with a 66-60 victory on Thursday night. Kentucky State has only played one exhibition and it was a 111-53 loss at Kentucky.
This will be the first time the teams have met for a regular season game since 2005. This is head coach Rick Stansbury's first time playing the Thorobreds in a regular season match-up.

Boris Siakam scored a career-best 15 points as WKU earned an 87-71 non-conference victory over Kentucky State at E.A. Diddle Arena.
Courtney Lee added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Anthony Winchester had 10 and seven, respectively.
Siakam made 7-of-9 attempts from the floor, adding three boards, two assists and a blocked shot. Daniel Emerson shared team-high rebounding honors with a career-best seven. WKU outrebounded the Thorobreds, 50-34, while 20 offensive boards led to 42 points in the points.
TOP STORYLINES
- The Hilltoppers have won 16 of their last 18 home openers and are 84-19 all-time in the season's first home game.
- Three Hilltoppers were named to the Conference USA Preseason All-Conference team: Dayvion McKnight, Emmanuel Akot & Jamarion Sharp. The team was picked second in the league overall behind UAB.
- In the last week of October, senior center Jamarion Sharp was named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Watch List. The award is given annual to the nation's top men's basketball center.
- Jamarion Sharp is the tallest player in college basketball for the second season in a row at 7 feet, 5 inches. He's also the tallest player in the history of the Hilltopper program. The average height of the Hilltopper roster is 6 feet, 5 and a half inches tall. WKU has seven players who are 6-foot-7 or taller.
- WKU returns 59% of its scoring, 70% of its rebounding, 65% of its assists, 51% of its steals and 84% of its blocking.
- Junior Dayvion McKnight was the only player in the entire country to average at least 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game in the 2021-22 season.
