BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –WKU Women's Cross Country runners freshman Audrey Boles, sophomore Mary Dye, and junior Lucy Rutherford, along with men's runner junior Brad Wiggins are slated to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, Nov. 11.
The meet will be hosted by the University of Louisville and held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park - a course that WKU competed at earlier this season - with the women's 6k set to start at noon CT and the men's 8k to follow after at 1 p.m. CT. Live results will be available via Flash Results.
Boles, a true freshman, was a top-five finisher in the Hilltoppers' line-up in every meet of the season. She marked a 15:54.78 in the women's 4k at the Foothills Invitational to kick off the regular season.The Illinois native also paved the way on the same course, E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, finishing third of the squad in the Red and White at an 18:41.10 pace in the 5k.
Dye represented WKU, running in the regional last season along with out-going senior Savannah Heckman. The now-sophmore completed the course in 2021 with a 23:03.80 mark, and now has edged her previous time with a 20:04.02 finish in this season's Live in the Lou. Dye closed out her season at the conference meet, placing second for the Hilltoppers with a 12:24:38 6k finish.
Rutherford, a junior, has led the women's squad off and on the trails and courses this season as a team captain. The Nashville native garnered a second-place finish on behalf of the Tops at the Foothills Invitational (15:27.43), and led the pack at the Blazer Classic (22:25.40) and C-USA Championship in Denton, Texas with a top-50 finish (23:28.10).
Wiggins paved through the men's squad, placing second among WKU runners in the final two regular season meets of the year, and leading in the top spot for the Red and White in the C-USA Championships with a 27:15.50 8k mark. The junior transfer from Coastal Carolina upped his personal record in the 8k to 26:31.70 at the 2022 Live in the Lou meet, on the same course hosting the Southeast Regional.
Boles, Dye, and Rutherford will compete against runners from 39 other schools, including nationally ranked teams such as No. 1 NC State, No. 12 Virginia, No. 15 North Carolina and No. 28 Furman. Wiggins will head against runners from 34 other programs, with ranked opponents such as No.7 Wake Forest, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 15 NC State, No. 19 Virginia, and 2022 C-USA Champion No. 30 Charlotte.
