WKU Baseball Finishes Fall Action Strong

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Baseball concluded its fall season tonight against Team Ontario.

The bout was rescheduled to begin at 3 p.m. due to incoming weather, but was delayed until 6 p.m., the original start time, because of a thunderstorm.

All 14 innings were played and saw 10 players take the mound for the Tops throughout the night. The pitching staff did not allow a single run to cross the plate from beginning to end for WKU.

Beau Coffman, Jake Gothrup, Nic Schutte, Aaron Lewis, Garrett Brunstetter, Andrew Brockwell, Evan Jones, Bryson Rigney, Cam Tullar and Dalton Mesaris all took turns on the bump for the last fall scrimmage of the year.

Andrew Delaney had the biggest bat of the night for the Tops, hitting two home runs, one off the left field foul pole, and a triple.

"What I thought we did the best was just worry about ourselves. We could not worry about a program that comes in that is basically high school kids that have this opportunity to do what they do, which is travel around and play different levels of college," said head coach Marc Rardin. "We just had a moment to get out and play the game. That is all we could do, worry about ourselves. Whether it was our approach at the plate, throwing strikes on the mound, all of that. I thought we were pretty strong the first game. We were really strong with our energy, locked in and just worried about ourselves, so I thought we were great."

The Hilltoppers will now wait for the beginning of the spring season to return to competition, beginning February of 2023.
