Tops Sit in Fourth After First Day of Xavier Invite

MAINEVILLE, Ohio – WKU Men's Golf is sitting in fourth after 27 holes on the first day of the Xavier Invitational. Due to darkness, the field was about to get in only 27 holes rather than the originally schedule 36.

As a team, WKU posted a first round 9-over 297 at the par-72, 7,180-yard TPC River's Bend golf course. The squad has moved up a spot in the midst of the second round and is currently at 5-under, unofficially, on the scoreboard.

Leading the Tops is senior Luke Fuller. He posted an even-par 72 for the first round and is shooting under par in the middle of his second. He's only three shots back from the leader as he is tied for fifth.

Next on the scoreboard for WKU is sophomore Riley Grindstaff. He turned in a 1-over 73 for the first round and currently 1-over in his second round as well. He's tied for 26th, but only one shot back from the top 20.

Redshirt sophomore Nic Hofman is just a stroke behind Grindstaff at 3-over through the 27 holes. He opened the day with a 4-over 76 and is 1-under in the second round. Junior Connery Meyer follows him as he shot 8-over 80 in the first round and is now at 2-under.

Graduate senior Landon Carner counted his first-round score at 4-over 76 and is in the middle of his second at 5-over.

WKU will finish the second round and complete the entire third round on Tuesday.
