BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- WKU Track & Field is set to continue its 2021 outdoor season at the Gamecock Invite in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday. This is the second SEC-school-hosted meet WKU has traveled to this year, having opened its season at Ole Miss.

At its last outing, WKU brought back 24 top-five finishes across the men's and women's sides of competition. The Hilltoppers won five different events, as well, including the 100-meter, 200-meter, 800-meter, 5,000-meter and 4x100-meter relay.

Winning events on the men's side were senior Dartez Hamlin in the 100-meter posting a 10.76 and freshman Jonathan Allen running a personal best 21.45 in the 200-meter. Freshman Casey Buchanan had a time of 1:53.48 in the 800-meter to win it. Junior Clint Sherman clocked a 14:38.01 in the 5,000-meter and the 4x100-meter relay squad won with a 41.43. In the process of winning the 5,000-meter, Sherman logged a 40-second personal best beating all other competitors in the field by 20 seconds or more.

Saturday's competition at the Gamecock Invite will begin with women's hammer at 8 a.m. CT. WKU's next field event following women's hammer will be the women's pole vault starting at 9 a.m. followed by the men. The Hilltoppers will also compete in women's javelin (9:30 a.m.) and high jump (following men's at 1 p.m.), and men's hammer (9:30 a.m.), shot put (1 p.m.) and discus (3 p.m.).

The track will fill up with action at 8:30 a.m. CT with the women's 5,000-meter. Running events will continue all throughout the day as the women's races precede the men's. The day is expected to conclude with the 4x400-meter relay around 3:50 p.m. CT.

WKU is bringing a squad of 13 male and 14 female competitors. Everyone traveling has seen action in at least one outdoor meet so far this season.
