Head Coach Davis Interview
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis has a challenging weekend ahead as the team wraps up its regular season with a pair of road matches in Ohio. The Lady Toppers will face off against Dayton on Saturday, April 17 at 12 noon and Cincinnati on Sunday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
"They're difficult teams to play away, usually they have good fan support," head coach Greg Davis said. "And this year both of their lineups are pretty deep, so we're going to have our hands full this weekend."
WKU is coming off back-to-back wins for the first time this season, as the Lady Toppers defeated Alabama A&M and North Alabama this past weekend by scores of 6-1 and 5-2, respectively. With those victories, WKU improved to a 6-12 overall record and now has taken four of its past six matches.
"We want to keep our momentum going and this is a big trip for us because one of the most important things in sports is keeping the momentum once you have it," Davis added. "We want to go into the Conference USA Tournament with momentum and it's going to help our seeding also."
The Flyers enter the match with a 5-12 overall record, including six losses in their past seven competitions over the past five weeks. Erica Wojcikiewicz leads Dayton with a 9-7 singles record, playing primarily and the No. 2 position. She will likely match up against WKU's Laura Bernardos, who leads the Lady Toppers with an 11-7 singles mark, including a 9-2 performance over her past 11 decisions.
The Bearcats own a 5-9 overall record, including a 3-1 mark over their past four matches. Cincinnati defeated Dayton by a score of 7-0 earlier this season on March 24.
WKU is 2-0 all-time against Cincinnati with a 5-4 win in 1983 and a 4-3 win in 2018, while the Lady Toppers are 1-0 all-time against the Flyers with a 5-2 win in 2019. The match against the Bearcats will be played at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center, while WKU faces off against Dayton at the Graul Tennis Complex.
