BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Lady Topper Golf is slated to host the fourth-annual Spring Break Shootout at the par-71, 6,056-yard Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday. WKU was preparing for the Shootout in spring 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the remainder of all spring sports.
Beginning on Monday, the field will play a continuous 36 holes in a shotgun format starting at 7:30 a.m. CT. The final round will be played on Tuesday. For the first time this season, WKU will play in threesomes with its own teammates, as opposed to playing with other teams from the field.
Leading off the Lady Topper lineup is sophomore Sarah Arnold. The St. Charles, Ill., native recently finished t-6th at the UNF Collegiate, tying for the lowest round of the entire event in her final 18 holes. The round was one of three 3-under 69's in the entire field, a total of 279 rounds played by 93 individuals in the tournament.
Freshman Rachel Rich will follow Arnold, competing in the second spot in the lineup. In the Battle of the Bluegrass on Feb. 27, Rich clinched the tying point for WKU, winning her match handily at 3&2.
The upperclassmen will close out the scorecard as redshirt senior Teri Doss, senior Megan Clarke and graduate senior Mary Joiner will wrap up the lineup. Senior Olivia Reed is ready to compete as an individual in the event.
WKU is one of 15 teams scheduled to compete in the Shootout. The Lady Toppers are currently ranked 80th on the Golfstat rankings while No. 42 North Florida, No. 74 Florida Gulf Coast and No. 91 Akron are also amongst the field. Live scoring for the event can be found here.
