LAST TIME OUT
- The Hilltoppers took two of three games against Wright State, improving to 5-2 overall and winning their second series of the season.
- WKU earned a 6-2 victory over the visiting Raiders in the series opener, helped by four consecutive scoring innings and strong pitching performances from Michael Darrell-Hicks and Jake Kates.
- The Hilltoppers clinched the series victory with a 7-2 win in game two, using four runs in the second inning and three runs in the eighth frame while being flanked by consistent pitching throughout to earn the victory.
- WKU fell 9-5 in the series finale, jumping out to an early lead before a six-run fourth inning by Wright State proved to be the difference maker.
SERIES HISTORY
- WKU and Austin Peay have met 160 times in a series that dates back to 1933, with the Hilltoppers owning a 97-62-1 all-time series edge over the Governors.
- The last meeting between the two teams was on May 14, 2019 in Clarksville, Tenn., where the Hilltoppers fell to the Governors in a high-scoring affair, 20-12.
- WKU's last win against Austin Peay came via a 22-17 victory on April 25, 2017.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
- The Hilltoppers are 5-2 on the season, following a series victory over Wright State, a team fresh off a 10-3 win at then-ranked No. 1 Louisville.
- Three WKU players are batting above .300 on the young season, led by Ray Zuberer III at .333.
- In addition to leading the team in batting average, Zuberer also paces the squad in hits (10), runs (7), home runs (2), total bases (18) and slugging percentage (.600).
- The Hilltoppers have also been effective on the mound, where they currently own a 3.09 ERA while collecting 66 strikeouts in 64.0 innings. Kates currently ranks first on the team with 18 strikeouts through three appearances, with Darrell-Hicks also in double digits after fanning 11 batters through two starts.
SCOUTING THE GOVERNORS
- The Governors are 3-4 on the year, most recently going 1-3 in the SAF Dirt Classic while collecting a win against Evansville and dropping contests to Missouri State, Samford and Bradley.
- Six Austin Peay players currently sport a batting average above .300, with Alex Hay leading the squad at .412.
- The Governors' projected starter on the mound for Tuesday's game, Hayden Josephson, owns an 0-1 record and 9.64 ERA on the year after pitching 4.2 innings through two appearances.
