BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Hilltopper Basketball continues its homestand to open the season by hosting Austin Peay at 3 p.m. CT Saturday at Diddle Arena. The game will air on ESPN3, as well as WKU PBS in Bowling Green and WBNA in Louisville.

WKU opened its season with a 76-64 home win over Tennessee Tech on Tuesday night.
Â
Austin Peay began play with a 110-67 rout of Oakland City on Tuesday. WKU leads the all-time series with the Governors 41-14 (25-5 at home) and has won nine straight. Hilltopper head coach Rick Stansbury is 2-0 in his career against Austin Peay.

• WKU opens the season with three straight games against Ohio Valley Conference opponents in Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky. The last time the Hilltoppers played three straight OVC foes was 2004-05, when WKU picked up three consecutive wins over Southeast Missouri State, Murray State and EKU.

• Junior guard Taveion Hollingsworth became the 50th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points with two early baskets against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 5. Hollingsworth joins WKU greats Courtney Lee and Bobby Rascoe as Hilltoppers to hit 1,000 points in the first game of their junior year.

• Redshirt senior guard/forward Jared Savage played his first two seasons at Austin Peay, helping the Governors to an OVC title and NCAA Tournament appearance as a freshman. As a sophomore in the 2016-17 season, he scored 24 points with five made 3-pointers against WKU in Diddle Arena.

• Across WKU's win over Tennessee Tech and exhibition victory, redshirt junior forward Carson Williams has grabbed nine total offensive rebounds and scored 18 points on second-chance plays.

• WKU sophomore center Charles Bassey has been named to the watch lists for the Naismith Trophy and the John R. Wooden Award, two of the most prestigious National Player of the Year honors in the country.

• WKU has the fifth-longest streak in the nation of consecutive games with a made 3-pointer at 1,011. Only UNLV (1,072), Vanderbilt (1,064), Duke (1,061) and Arkansas (1,012) have longer streaks.

LAST GAME AGAINST AUSTIN PEAY: DECEMBER 22, 2017

Playing with just seven Hilltoppers in uniform and six scholarship players, WKU used a second-half surge to close nonconference play with a 72-55 win at Austin Peay.
Â
After falling behind 39-32 early in the second half, WKU went on a 17-3 run in less than four minutes to power ahead 49-42 at the 14:27 mark. Austin Peay closed the gap to one with 12:24 to play, but the Hilltoppers used another 17-4 run to ice the victory – their first true road win of the season.

Senior guard Darius Thompson had a stellar outing in a full 40 minutes, registering 21 points, seven assists, six steals and six rebounds with no turnovers.

Freshman guard Taveion Hollingsworth finished with 20 points, while redshirt junior guard Lamonte Bearden added 14 points, six assists and two steals.
