Lady Tops Close Fall Season at Little Rock as Clarke Defends Title

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Women's Golf will look to close its fall season on a high note this weekend in the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic.

The Lady Toppers are scheduled to compete Sunday through Tuesday at the par-72, 6,088-yard Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, Ark.

It will also be a chance for WKU junior Megan Clarke to defend her title as the event's reigning individual champion.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back to a golf course where we have had success in the past," WKU head coach Adam Gary said. "Megan will have a great opportunity to defend her title from last year. We closed with a great round at Louisville and look to carry that momentum into the last event of the fall."

Teams will play 18 holes each day, with tee times set for 8:30 a.m. CT Sunday and Monday. Tuesday's final round will have an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Last year, Clarke shot a career-low, 4-under 212 total to claim her first college victory at the Little Rock tournament.

She entered the final round one shot back of the lead, but ultimately took control by leading the field in total birdies and par-5 scoring. Her second-round 67 tied for the second-lowest round in program history, and she set new career lows for 18, 36 and 54 holes.

Her efforts helped the Lady Toppers finish fourth as a team, even with Mary Joiner having to withdraw due to illness.

Joining Clarke and the senior Joiner in the WKU lineup this week will be seniors Abigail Smee and Bailey Tyree, and freshman Sarah Arnold. Junior Olivia Reed will compete as an individual.

The Lady Toppers are coming off a 10th-place finish at Louisville's Cardinal Cup, in which they finished on a positive note with a nine-stroke improvement in the final round.
