BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Golf took a three-week hiatus and now returns to the competition trail. The Lady Toppers are set to play in the Cardinal Cup hosted by Louisville beginning on Friday as the 54-hole event will span three days.

 "This weekend is probably the strongest field we're going to play in this fall," said head coach Adam Gary of the 17-team field. "University of Louisville has a fantastic field so it will be really tough competition for us."

Out of the 17 teams, 10 are currently ranked in the Golfstat top-100, including the Lady Toppers who came in at No. 91. No. 83 Campbell, No. 59 Chattanooga, No. 57 East Carolina, No. 20 Kentucky, No. 42 Louisville, No. 87 Mercer, No. 99 Middle Tennessee State, No. 55 Washington and No. 73 Wisconsin are also slated to compete.

"I'm looking forward to competing against good teams," said Gary of the group. "I think that's how you get better. You keep putting yourself out there and keep testing yourself under tough competition and under the gun so I think that will only help us as Conference comes up in the spring."

The Cardinal Cup will be played at the par-72, 6,393-yard University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.

"It's a course we're familiar with, we've played there before and a lot of the girls have played state events there before as far as the State Open, State Amateur, said Gary. "We have a lot of experience on it and that should hopefully help us out."

WKU will feature a similar lineup as in weeks past. Senior Mary Joiner will continue to lead the squad in the first slot. In addition to Joiner, freshman Sarah Arnold, juniors Megan Clarke and Olivia Reed and senior Abigail Smee are all set to compete for the Lady Tops. Sophomore Lizzie Loy will play as an individual in Simpsonville.

Friday and Saturday will begin with a tee time format while Sunday's final round will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT.
