NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In WKU Track and Field's second meet of the 2019 campaign, the Hilltoppers continued to gain valuable experience against a stacked Vanderbilt Invitational field. The two-day meet saw the Red and White rack up seven top-10 finishes in the 25-team field – five of which were season-best marks for the squad.
"We had another great opportunity today at Vanderbilt," head coach Erik Jenkins shared. "We competed against some of the nation's best and the results proved that."
Freshman high jumper Katie Isenbarger collected WKU's top finish across the weekend as she finished third in the women's high jump following a jump off. The dual-sport athlete cleared 1.70 meters (5'7") and was the lone freshman to finish in the events top-20 standings. Isenbarger's clear is the top mark achieved by a Lady Topper on the season.
Sticking with women's field events, Annastacia Forrester brought home an eighth place finish in the long jump after a bound of 5.84 meters (19'2") – another season-best for the Lady Toppers.
Wrapping up the Lady Toppers' top-10 finishes, Juannae Lewis clocked a mark of 24.87 in her first 200-meter race of the season. The reading was the top mark of the season for the Red and White in the event.
In the same event on the men's side, Will Bush ran a 21.98 to finish eighth overall. Bush is the first Hilltopper to compete in the event this season. The men's 60-meter prelims saw current Hilltopper Martin Owusu-Antwi earn fourth place with a mark of 6.84 and former WKU standout Emmanuel Dasor finish third (6.78), running unattached on the weekend. Owusu-Antwi's time was a personal best for the senior.
WKU entered two men's teams into the distance medley relay and saw them post back-to-back fourth and fifth place showings. The Hilltoppers' top squad comprised of Ka'Ven Berry, Lincoln Warren, David Kisotu Saruni and Dedrick Troxell clocked a 10:40.40 season-best time. Clint Sherman, Nigel Brown, Dylan Duckworth and Luke Hoover crossed the line in 10:41.20 for their top-five finish.
WKU Track and Field will return to the Hoosier State again next weekend with the two-day IU Relays on deck. Action from Bloomington, Ind., will take place across Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26.
