SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. — Redshirt junior Linus Lo led the way for the WKU Hilltopper Golf team Sunday, finishing in a tie for 15th place at the Louisville Cardinals Challenge.
Lo shot an even-par 71 in the final round at the par-71, 7,101-yard University of Louisville Golf Club to finish with a career-low 211 (68-72-71) total.
As a team, WKU tied for seventh with a three-day total of 859 (277-294-288) – less than five strokes from being one of the program's top-10 tallies in the last 30-plus years.
No. 17 Duke claimed the team championship with a 37-under 815. The 16-team field features six programs in the Golfstat Top 50.
"I'm very pleased with how the team competed this week," WKU head coach Chan Metts said. "This event was very similar to what a Regional field will look like in May. We had an opportunity to play head-to-head against some of the best teams in the country this weekend, and played well against them.
"We will certainly take a few things away from this event that we can improve. Last week we had one really good round. This week we put together two of three. Hopefully moving forward we will start to piece together three rounds."
Freshman Dominic Brettkelly tied for 27th with a 214 (67-72-75) total, while redshirt freshman Billy Tom Sargent tied for 38th at 216 (69-76-71).
Redshirt freshman Dawson McDaniel and junior Tom Bevington each finished with 229 tallies. After opening the tournament with an 83, Bevington continued to improve over each round and concluded the event Sunday with a 1-over 72.
Sophomore Chase Landrum tied for 47th competing as an individual at 217 (70-72-75).
WKU has another quick turnaround before its next event, which will be Cincinnati's Bearcat Invitational on Sept. 24-25.
