Easton, Sargent Shoot Pair of 74s on Second Day of C-USA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. — WKU golfers Billy Tom Sargent and Stuart Easton each shot a 2-over 74 in Monday's second round of the 2018 Conference USA Championship, the best rounds in the event by a Hilltopper thus far.

The redshirt junior Sargent, who led WKU in the first round, is tied for 22nd individually with a two-round total of 149 (75-74) at the par-72, 6,969-yard Texarkana Country Club.

"The course has played pretty tough," Sargent said. "The greens have firmed up quite a bit, even though we had quite a bit of rain after the practice round. Pin locations have been really tricky. It's been tough leaving yourself on the right sides of the holes where you need to putt from, lot of false fronts. As a team, I think we're playing solid – just a few mistakes here and there."

The junior Easton also helped his cause Monday, moving up into a tie for 27th with a two-round total of 150 (76-74).

Their efforts helped WKU improve by four strokes in the second round. The Hilltoppers remain in 10th with a two-round team total of 604 (304-300).

Middle Tennessee leads the standings at 582.

"Overall, it was a good day for the team as a whole," Easton said. "I didn't have a great start to the first round, and I thought it should have been a lot better. But in the second round, I was really solid. … I took my time and took my chances when I had them. There are always a few putts that you can take advantage of that don't fall, but overall it was a good day. I have one three-putt through 36 holes, which for that golf course is very good."

Redshirt sophomore Linus Lo (76-76-152) and sophomore Tom Bevington (77-76-153) are tied for 40th and 46th, respectively. Freshman Crimson Callahan is tied for 57th at 159 (77-82).

Teams will play the final round of stroke play Tuesday. The top four teams will then advance to match play Wednesday to determine the conference champion.

"Tomorrow we just need to grind it out," Sargent said. "We need to make a bunch of birdies and see what we can do – see if we can get in the match play."
