BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the first time in program history, WKU Lady Topper Golf sits inside the Golfstat Top 100 as it prepares to compete this weekend in Louisville's Cardinal Cup.

The Lady Toppers debuted in the first rankings of the season at No. 88, the first time the team has ever been inside the top 100.

"That's been a goal of mine since day one," WKU head coach Adam Gary said. "When I started we were ranked 181st in the country, so to get into the top 100 is a big accomplishment, and that's something that didn't just happen this year. It's come from the last four years of players and team members that have all come to progress us to where we are now. But I think that's encouraging to our team because they are actually seeing some results and seeing some of the hard work pay off, which I think is great, and then we have another tough week coming up with University of Louisville to test our games a little bit more."

WKU will certainly be tested this week in the 14-team field at the par-72, 6,303-yard UofL Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.

The Lady Toppers are just one of 10 programs in the Golfstat Top 100 that will be competing in the event. Teams will play 36 holes Saturday starting at 8:15 a.m. CT, with the final round set for Sunday.

"This is probably the strongest field we are going to play this year," Gary said. "We're probably middle to bottom third of the field right now, ranking wise, even though we moved up quite a bit. That's how you get better – you have to play with the best to improve yourself, so I think we are looking forward to the challenge this weekend."

Juniors Mary Joiner, Bailey Tyree and Abigail Smee will represent the Lady Toppers at Louisville along with sophomore Megan Clarke and freshman Lizzie Loy.

WKU was last in action against another strong field at Kentucky's Bettie Lou Evans Invitational, where Joiner led the way in a tie for 11th individually.
