BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the first time of the 2017 season, WKU Cross Country will stay in-state as the Hilltoppers will head up to the 16th Annual Louisville Cross Country Classic hosted Saturday by the Louisville Sports Commission. Nearly 3,000 collegiate athletes are expected to represent more than 140 colleges and universities from 30 states and Canada at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
This year's field will be comprised of 42 men's teams and 41 women's teams that are currently ranked in the NAIA and NCAA National Cross Country Polls this season. In total, 50 NCAA Division I teams are listed in the field as the Red and White will be joined by elite company. Middle Tennessee and UAB will join the Hilltoppers in representing Conference USA.
Race Times:
Men's Gold race 9:30 am
Women's Gold race 10:15 am
Men's Blue race 10:45 am
Women's Blue race 11:30 am
Men's Silver race 12:00 pm
Women's Silver race 12:45 pm
On the women's side, racers will cover a 5K while the men will run an 8K race. The Lady Toppers are set to run in the silver women's race commencing at 11:45 a.m. CT. Action on the men's side will commence at 9:45 a.m. CT in the blue men's race.
As in past years, the race will be held seven weeks prior to the national collegiate championship weekend. The meet is contested at E.P "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., which is the site of five NAIA National Championships, two BIG EAST Conference Championships, five NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, the 2010 NCAA DII National Championships, the 2012 and 2015 NCAA Division I National Championships, the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championships, and the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championships. The venue will also be the site of the 2017 ACC Cross Country Championships and 2017 Division I National Championships.
