After Purdue got on the board in the first inning, Brittany Vaughn reached base on an infield error before working her way around to third and ultimately stealing home to knot the game at 1-1. The rest of the game's scoring would take place in the fourth inning as the Red and White sent eight batters to the plate in the frame. Kelsey McGuffin represented the go-ahead run after working a five-pitch walk while Adarian Gray, Jordan Thomas, Maddie Bowlds and Kendall Smith added insurance runs.
WKU owned a 4-1 lead when Smith stepped up and knocked a two-run home run to put the Hilltoppers' final tallies on the board. Paige Carter and Jordan Vorbrink contributed a pair of sacrifice hits to advance runners during WKU's big inning.
