NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the second competition of the season, WKU Cross Country saw upperclassmen Endalow Takele and Savannah Ames lead their respective races at the Commodore Classic from Nashville, Tenn. WKU placed 14^th as a team on the men's side while the women posted a 17^th-place finish.

Takele finished 47^th overall in the men's 8K competition with a mark of 26:11.9 as the Hilltoppers saw their first 8K course of the season. Julien Cuyeu was WKU's second finisher, crossing the line with a 26:29.3 reading for 59^th. Taylor Scarbrough added a top-100 finish as well, earning a 27:10.6 time on the Percy Warner Park course. Alexander Schell finished with a time of 29:09.9 for 137^th while Barrett Eddings rounded out WKU competitors with a time of 30:17.7 for 143^rd.

As a team, the Hilltoppers owned an average time of 27:52 for 14^th in the field of 15 squads. Middle Tennessee took the team title while Butler and Lipscomb also finished in the top three. Also out of Conference USA, Marshall took 10^th as a squad.

In the women's 5K, WKU saw senior Ames lead the way with a mark of 20:21.5, her top time of the year, for a 140^th finish individually. Crossing second for the Lady Toppers was Brianna Wolken in 166^th with a reading of 21:49.4. Rylie Mercer and Morgan Kannapel finished 169^th and 170^th with marks of 22:00.8 and 22:44.8, respectively. Aairiona Hayden-Ransom rounded out the WKU competitors with a 24:26.7 reading.

In the field of 17, Ohio State took the women's team crown while Vanderbilt and Missouri claimed second and third place. From C-USA Middle Tennessee grabbed ninth while Marshall finished 15^th. WKU posted an average race time of 22:17 to take 17^th.

WKU Cross Country is back in action at the end of the month at the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 30 up the road in Louisville.
