WKU Cross Country Headed Back South For Commodore Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After nearly two weeks since its opening competition of the 2017 campaign, WKU Cross Country is back in action as the Erik Jenkins-coached unit is headed for the Commodore Classic this weekend. Action from Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn., is slated to commence at 9 a.m. CT with the men's 8K followed by the women's 5K at 10 a.m. CT.

The field of the 14^th annual Commodore Classic features 17 men's teams and 18 women's teams. In the men's field, the Hilltoppers will be joined by Austin Peay, Belmont, Butler, IUPUI, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Marshall, Miami (OH), MTSU, Missouri, Ohio State, Southern Illinois and Vanderbilt. The Lady Toppers will compete against athletes representing Austin Peay, Belmont, Butler, Eastern Michigan, IUPUI, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Marshall, Miami (OH), MTSU, Missouri, Ohio State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt and Xavier.

Michigan's Erin Finn recorded the Vaughn's Gap Course record time with a 16:43.4 reading in 2015 for the women. On the men's 8K Vaughn's Gap Course, Texas A&M's Henry Lelei set the record in 2012 with a mark of 23:29.95.

WKU has seven individuals listed for weekend competition on the men's side as Julien Cuyeu, Barrett Eddings, Taylor Scarbrough, Alexander Schell, Kyle Sprague, Bryce Swindell and Endalow Takele are expected to travel. For the Lady Toppers, Savannah Ames, Rebecca Cook, Morgan Kannapel, Rylie Mercer, Aairiona Hayden-Ransom, Ariel Terrell and Brianna Wolken are listed to see weekend action.
