IRVING, Texas - With regular season Conference USA softball wrapped up and the league tournament about to start, the C-USA office announced that WKU Softball's Jordan Mauch and Kelsey Aikey earned recognition for their 2017 campaigns. Mauch earned Second-Team All-Conference recognition while Aikey was selected to the league's All-Freshman squad.
A native of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Mauch led the Hilltoppers in nearly every offensive category including batting average, hits, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks and on-base percentage. Mauch's 12 long balls are a career best for the junior as the mark doubles her output from the 2016 season. With 13 multi-hit games including a three-hit outing, Mauch is tied for the team best in the category. Additionally, the righty has eight multi-RBI outings on the year.
In her debut season on The Hill, Aikey has started nine games in the circle for the Hilltoppers while posting a 6-3 record. The Cedar Falls, Iowa, native has recorded a C-USA-best 14 relief appearances, picking up a pair of saves. Aikey posted an overall ERA of 3.13 in 78.1 innings pitched while lowering that mark to 2.31 in C-USA-only matchups. The freshman has tallied five complete-game outings while posting a complete-game shutout during the Red and White's spring break trip through Alabama.
Mauch marks the fifth Hilltopper to earn All-Conference honors since the program joined C-USA prior to the 2015 campaign. Furthermore, Aikey is the third Hilltopper freshman to be selected to the All-Freshman team in the last three years.
The Conference USA All-Academic team will be announced on Wednesday. Last season, Mauch was selected to the 11-person squad.
WKU will kick off C-USA Tournament action on Wednesday in a noon CT tilt with UAB in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In 2015, the last time the Hilltoppers earned a spot in the league tournament, the squad took home the tournament crown.
