BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Thomas Peter's sixth homerun of the season - and fifth already in league play - highlighted the afternoon for WKU Baseball, who lost to No. 25 Southern Miss on Sunday at Nick Denes Field, 13-1. Colie Currie added a pair of walks for the second straight game and stole his third base of the year in the fourth inning.
Evan Acosta struck out Golden Eagles' center fielder Matt Wallner swinging in the first inning to strand a pair of runners and give the Hilltoppers a chance to take an early lead in the final game of the Conference USA three-game series. In the bottom half, Peter reached on an E6 with one out and Currie drew a six-pitch walk with two, but Nathan Methvin flew out to deep center field to end the frame.
Southern Miss took a 4-0 lead in the next frame on a solo homerun by Storme Cooper and a three-run long ball by Daniel Keating, both with two outs. After the Golden Eagles took a 5-0 lead in the top of the third, Peter hit a two-out, solo homerun in the bottom of the inning to bring WKU within four.
But Southern Miss scored the final eight runs of the game to push the final score to 13-1. The game ended after eight innings due to the league's Sunday 10-run rule.
