LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kevin Lambert's first career homerun highlighted the afternoon for WKU Baseball, who lost to Kentucky by a score of 17-2 on Wednesday evening at Cliff Hagan Stadium. First baseman Grayson Ivey also added an extra-base hit, an RBI double in the third inning.
The Hilltoppers (3-6) loaded the bases in the first inning with two outs, but Colie Currie lined out to left field to end the threat. The Wildcats (4-5) responded with five runs apiece in the first and second innings to jump out to a 10-0 lead.
The next time up for WKU, with runners on first and second, Ivey drove a 2-0 pitch off the right-center field wall to score Kaleb Duckworth. It was the infielder's first double and run batted in on The Hill, driving in the team's opening run of the contest.
To lead off the sixth frame, the freshman shortstop Lambert deposited the opening pitch from Zack Thompson deep over the left field fence. It was the team's 10th homerun of the season and the third by a Hilltopper freshman, matching round trippers by Ray Zuberer III (Feb. 18 vs. Valparaiso) and Wyatt Featherston (Feb. 26 vs. Jacksonville State).
