BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU softball head coach Amy Tudor announced the signing of Adarian Gray Wednesday afternoon as the Madisonville, Kentucky, native is set to join the Lady Toppers for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
"Adarian will add further depth to our current infield rotation," Tudor said. "I'm looking forward to seeing how her athleticism and passion for the game will impact the team."
A two-sport standout athlete, Gray comes to Bowling Green after completing stellar prep careers both in the diamond and on the basketball court at Madisonville North Hopkins High School.
As a seven-year starter with the Lady Maroon softball program, Gray played primarily at third base where the infielder was an All-District selection in 2010, 2012 and 2016.
A reliable threat both at the plate and in the field, Gray captured the team's offensive and defensive awards during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
A 2015 Kentucky East/West All-Star selection, Gray finished her high school softball career by helping the Lady Maroons to a 36-5 overall record and a third place finish in the 2016 3A Kentucky State Softball Tournament as the senior tallied both All-District and All-Region honors.
On the court, Gray finished her playing career as a three-time All-District and two-time All-Region honoree for the Maroons basketball program.
The 5-foot-9 forward capped her senior season by earning the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) Region II Player of the Year award after averaging 14.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. In addition, Gray was a nominee for the 2015-16 Miss Kentucky Basketball award.
A four-year starter, she finished her playing career in 11th place in the school's all-time scoring records after amassing a total of 1,153 career points.
With the addition of Gray, WKU now has a total of seven players from the state of Kentucky on its current 17-person roster. Gray is set to join former high school teammate and incoming Lady Topper freshman Morgan McElroy on The Hill for 2016-17.
The addition of Gray makes for a total of ten newcomers for the 2016-17 season. The other new additions consist of Brittany Vaughn (Memphis/Bowling Green, Ky.), Kara Brewer (Columbia State JC/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.), Kelsey Aikey (Cedar Falls, Iowa), Haylee Towers (Johnston, Iowa), Paige Carter (Crown Point, Indiana), Taylor Childress (Louisville, Ky.), Katie Johnson (Stillwater, Minn.), Morgan McElroy (Madisonville, Ky.) and Tommi Stowers (Columbus, Indiana).
