Conference USA Postseason Awards
IRVING, Texas -- WKU softball standouts Brooke Holloway and Bryce Holmgren were honored by Conference USA Wednesday morning as Holloway earned Second Team All-C-USA honors after a tremendous senior campaign while Holmgren was named to the All-Freshman Team.
A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Holloway turned in a terrific senior campaign in 2016 as the shortstop led the Lady Toppers with a .360 batting average and produced a career-best 11 home runs, including a pair of walk-off slams against C-USA foes North Texas and Marshall.
WKU's most reliable hitter, the veteran shortstop recorded a team-high 15 multi-hit contests and paced the Lady Toppers in runs (30), hits (50), doubles (9), RBI (29), on-base percentage (.470) and stolen bases (7).
The Texan finished the year with an impressive .676 slugging percentage which ranks second in school history for a single season. A three-year starter who is the lone remaining member of the 2013 and 2015 Lady Topper teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, Holloway finished her WKU career ranked fifth all-time with a .489 slugging clip.
Holmgren turned in a strong rookie season on The Hill as the Roland, Iowa, native ranked second on the team in both hitting (.408) and on-base percentage (.462) and tied Holloway with a team-best 29 hits during the Conference USA season.
Used primarily as the designated player, Holmgren had several big hits for the Lady Toppers, including a walk-off, two-run single in the Lady Toppers victory over Butler in just her third game of her collegiate career.
In league play, Holmgren led the Lady Toppers in series victories over FIU and rival Middle Tennessee, registering a .522 average with 12 hits and four RBI on 23 total at-bats over the six-game span. In WKU's 10-2 triumph over FIU, she totaled a career-best three RBI and then tallied a career-high four hits in WKU's 4-3 victory over MT.
Holloway is the fourth Lady Topper to be named to an All-Conference team since WKU joined the league in 2015, and joins Dani Pugh (2015) as a second-team honoree. Holmgren is the second player to be named to the C-USA All-Freshman team, joining Carleigh Chaumont who earned the honor last season.
