Rebel Intercollegiate Final Results
OXFORD, Miss. - WKU tallied a 14-over 302 in the final round at the Rebel Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss on Sunday to finish in 11th place on the Ole Miss Golf Course. The Lady Toppers finished with a 54-hole total of 54-over 918 (310-306-302) for the event.
Troy captured the team championship with a seven-over 871 (297-282-292), while WKU's final round, its best of the tournament, left the Lady Toppers just three strokes outside the top 10. Host Ole Miss placed second overall at 24-over 888 (303-299-286).
Emily Alexander led the WKU card for the second time in the team's last three tournaments, finished at 13-over 229 (76-76-77) to tie alongside five other golfers for 30th place. Alexander, the C-USA Women's Golfer of the Week on March 23, has now played each of her last three 54-hole tournaments at 230 or lower.
Three different Lady Toppers tied for 51st with a score of 17-over 233. Daniela Galassi (78-76-79) played every round below 80 for the second straight tournament, while Ellinor Haag (80-75-78) rebounded from her opening-round 80 by playing just nine-over par over the final two rounds.
Owner of WKU's largest leap up the leaderboard on the final day, Katie Story also finished with a 54-hole total of 233. The sophomore transfer launched the Lady Toppers' lowest round of the tournament, a one-under 71, on Sunday that also doubled as her second-lowest round since joining WKU prior to the 2015-16 season. Story jumped 28 spots on the strength of her round to tie for 51st overall.
Georgina Blackman rounded out the card for the Lady Toppers, tying for 56th after an 18-over 234 (76-82-76). Michaela Bordeianu also competed as an individual for WKU and fired her lowest round of the tournament on Sunday, tying for 85th after recorded a 30-over 246 (86-81-79).
Troy's Fatima Cano captured individual medalist honors with a seven-under 209 (73-70-66), besting the rest of the field by five strokes.
WKU will return to action in two weeks for the 2016 C-USA Women's Golf Championship at the Verandah Club in Fort Myers, Fla., on April 18-20. All 11 teams will compete in the three-round tournament with 18 holes scheduled for each day, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship.
