Box Score MURRAY, Ky. -- WKU softball struggled offensively Tuesday evening as the Lady Toppers were held hitless through five innings in the opening contest of a twin bill at Murray State as the Lady Tops dropped a 6-0 contest at Racer Field.
The nightcap between the two teams lasted just under an inning before being cancelled due to inclement weather in the surrounding area.
Murray State (19-28) used a three-run shot from Maggie Glass in the second inning and a two-RBI double from Madison Culver followed by a WKU wild pitch in the sixth in order to plate all six of their runs.
The Lady Toppers would break up Murray State starter Mason Robinson's no-no attempt in the top of the sixth as Bryce Holmgren notched a single up the middle. Sophomore Hannah Parker would record WKU's final hit in the seventh as Robinson finished the shutout victory only allowing a pair of Lady Topper hits.
WKU's starting pitcher Kelsey Jernigan (0-7) was credited with the loss, giving up five earned runs but tallying a career-best six strikeouts in her first complete game effort of her career.
WKU (16-25, 7-8 C-USA) returns to Conference USA action this weekend as the Lady Toppers travel to Boca Raton, Florida, for a crucial three-game series with league-leader Florida Atlantic.
The series with the Owls will begin with a 3 p.m. CT doubleheader Saturday and will conclude with a Noon CT finale Sunday.
