BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU track and field program had a successful outing this weekend at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on the campus of the University of Louisville as the Hilltoppers captured seven events and had a total of 17 top-three finishes at UL's Cardinal Park.
The relay teams turned in a superb outing led by the 4x100 men's relay team of Grant Swinton, Emmanuel Dasor, Julius Morris and Kyree King who set the meet record with a first place finish of 40.60 seconds.
The women's 4x100 relay team placed second as a team of Peli Alzola, Sandra Akachukwu, Jadzia Beasley and Carrol Hardy notched a time of 45.68 seconds.
The Hilltoppers also recorded top two showings in the 4x400 relay event as the men's team of Swinton, Morris, King and rookie Keenon Laine captured the event and set a meet record with a time of 3:09.74. The Lady Topper foursome of Shantol Hemley, Jessica Gelibert, Tashauna Yapchung and Kaila Smith placed second in the women's event with a time of 3:49.38.
On the track, a 1-2-3 finish in the men's 100 meter dash highlighted several successful efforts. Emmanuel Dasor captured the event with a time of 10.38 seconds followed by Corey Parks career-best time of 10.54. Ja'Karyus Redwine placed third with an effort of 10.55.
Junior Sandra Akachukwu led WKU to a fourth place finish in the women's 100 meter with a career-best time of 12.03 seconds.
WKU notched a pair of top five finishes in the 200 meter dash event led by Kyree King's first place showing after recording a career-best time of 21.20 seconds. Jadzia Beasley led the Lady Toppers in the women's 200 with a fourth place finish after also clocking a career-best time of 23.80 seconds.
The Lady Topper duo of Shantol Hemley and Tashauna Yapchung turned in top three finishes in the 800 meter and 400 meter events respectively. Hemley captured the 800 meter with an effort of 2:12.98 while Yapchung placed third in the 400 meter after clocking a career-best time of 55.72.
The Hilltoppers placed three in the top five of the 110 meter hurdles led by senior Vincent Wyatt's third place finish with a time of 13.88 seconds. The effort was his best as a Hilltopper. Jonathan Hayden (14.37) followed in fourth while Maor Seged (14.48) placed fifth.
WKU found itself atop the 400 meter hurdles event as sophomore Jonathan Hayden captured the men's race with a career-best time of 53.14 while Ariel Terrell placed second in the women's event with an effort of 1:03.22.
Senior Jessica Gelibert rounds out WKU's top three showings on the track with a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles after notching a career-best time of 13.63 seconds.
The Hilltoppers turned in three top-three showings in the field led by Nick Demaline's first place finish in the men's shot put event with an effort of 17.84 meters.
A pair of Lady Toppers notched runner-up finishes as Jenessa Jackson placed second in the women's shot put with a toss of 14.41 meters while sophomore Natalie Uhl turned in a second place showing in the discus with a career-best toss of 48.42 meters.
WKU is set to return to action this weekend as the Hilltoppers will travel to Philadelphia to take part in the prestigious Penn Relays from April 28-30.
