BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU softball will take a brief break from Conference USA play as the Lady Toppers are set to host Tennessee Tech for a single game contest Wednesday evening at the WKU Softball Complex. First pitch with the Golden Eagles is set for 6 p.m. CT.
WKU (14-19, 6-6 C-USA) comes into the midweek contest riding a two-game winning streak as the Lady Toppers captured its second Conference USA series on the year after taking a 2-1 series victory over rival Middle Tennessee this past weekend at the WKU Softball Complex.
Sunday's pivotal series clinching victory over the Blue Raiders not only marked head coach Amy Tudor's 300th career victory but it also evened up WKU's C-USA record to 6-6 as the Lady Toppers currently sit in fourth place in the updated standings.
Rookie Bryce Holmgren continues to be on an offensive tear for the Lady Toppers as the Iowa native has recorded a staggering .619 batting average, tallying 13 hits on 21 at-bats, over WKU's last six contests.
Holmgren now leads a trio of Lady Toppers who have recorded a .300 average on the year as the utility player is hitting .367 with 33 hits on 90 at-bats with 12 RBI. Senior Brooke Holloway ranks second with a .360 average on a team-high 36 hits and seven home runs while sophomore Jordan Mauch rounds out the group with a .326 average and a team-most 22 RBI. WKU has notched double-digit hits as a team in its last four contests as the Lady Toppers upped their team average to .276 on the year.
Sophomore Hannah Parker continues to lead WKU in the circle with a 9-11 record in 130 innings pitched. Parker has 13 complete game efforts including three shutouts and has tossed a team-high 105 strikeouts with just 45 walks. Junior Kathryn Downing (5-2) has totaled 34 strikeouts and three complete games in 62 innings in the circle.
A member of the Ohio Valley Conference, Tennessee Tech (14-24) comes into the midweek contest with Lady Toppers having split a pair of road doubleheaders with conference foes Southeast Missouri State and UT Martin this past weekend.
TTU is led offensively by senior Sabrie Neeb who has recorded a .278 average after notching a team-high 30 hits on 108 at-bats with seven doubles and 16 RBI. As a team, the Golden Eagles are hitting .235 on the year.
In the circle, left-hander Danielle Liberatore (9-11) leads the way for the Golden Eagles as the junior has totaled 10 complete games with three shutouts and a save. Liberatore has already tallied an impressive 151 strikeouts on the year in 108.2 innings pitched.
Promotions: WKU will be celebrating National Student Athlete Day Wednesday at the WKU Softball Complex. The contest will also be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day as ALL faculty and staff will be able to get two complimentary tickets to the game by showing their WKU faculty/staff ID.
