BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU softball couldn't overcome a pair of two-out grand slams Wednesday evening as No. 25 Louisville (23-6) shutout the Lady Toppers, 12-0 (5 inn.) in front of a packed crowd at the WKU Softball Complex.
The Cardinals did all of their damage to the scoreboard in the second and third innings, highlighted by a seven-run second inning that saw UofL record a two-RBI single followed by a grand slam all while facing their final out.
The Louisville third inning played out similarly to the second as the Lady Toppers quickly notched a pair of outs. Facing its final out of the inning, UofL once again did damage to the scoreboard, tallying an RBI bunt and following with its second grand slam of the night as the Cardinals took a commanding 12-0 advantage.
WKU couldn't manage to find enough offense to extend the contest past five innings as Louisville extended its win streak to 12 games with a 12-0 shutout victory.
Four different Lady Toppers finished with a hit as Louisville outhit WKU, 11-4, on the night. Brooke Holloway, Jordan Mauch, Hannah Parker and Lexie Norfleet were the WKU players to tally a hit.
WKU (11-16, 3-3 C-USA) resumes league action this weekend as the Lady Toppers return to the state of Mississippi for a three-game C-USA series at Southern Miss.
The series with the Golden Eagles is set to begin Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. CT and will conclude Sunday with a noon CT contest at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
