BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU sophomore Lexie Norfleet's powerful offensive performance led the Lady Toppers to an easy, 7-1 victory over Valparaiso Friday afternoon on the opening day of the 2016 Holiday Inn Spring Fling at the WKU Softball Complex.
Norfleet finished the contest with a perfect, 3-for-3, performance as a three-run home run to left field in the second inning highlighted a red-hot showing at the plate. The homer proved to be her first of the season and the second of her relatively young WKU career. In addition to the home run, Norfleet finished her perfect offensive showing by recorded a pair of doubles.
After jumping out to a 3-0 on the Norfleet home run, WKU used a four-run sixth inning to extend its lead over the Crusaders, 7-0. Doubles from Norfleet and Taylor Proctor along with an RBI single from Hannah Parker highlighted the inning for the Lady Toppers.
Valpo broke WKU's shutout attempt in the top of the seventh inning as the Crusaders tallied a run on their third hit of the game.
Hannah Parker (5-1) recorded her third consecutive victory for WKU as the sophomore threw six shutout innings while allowing just a pair of hits and striking out a total of five Valpo hitters.
WKU (6-3) returns to action with a pair of games Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Holiday Inn Spring Fling. The Lady Toppers are set to square off against Ball State at approximately 11:45 a.m. CT and will then clash with Western Carolina at 2 p.m. CT.
