- WKU's team captains for the game were Drew Davis, Forrest Lamp and Anthony Wales.
- There was an attendance of 24,726 in FAU Stadium for the 7:00 p.m. kick off.
- WKU won a bowl game for the 3rd-consecutive season. The Hilltoppers previously beat Central Michigan (49-48) in the 2014 Popeyes Bahamas Bowl and South Florida (45-35) in the 2015 Miami Beach Bowl.
- This was the 6th matchup between WKU and Memphis, and the 1st since 1956. With the Hilltoppers' win, they improved to 3-2-1 against the Tigers. It was the 1st game in series history in which one side did not get shut out.

- Completed 20 of 30 passes for 336 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. It was his 8th game of 300+ yards passing this season, including the 7th in his last 9 contests.
- With a 187.1 rating on the day, he posted a 160+ rating in the final 10 games of the year.
- Earned 2016 Boca Raton Bowl Offensive MVP honors.
- Had 35 rushes for a career-high 245 yards to go along with 3 touchdowns. It was his 2nd-career (and 2nd-consecutive) 200-yard rushing game, and only the 4th for WKU since 2014.

- Had 9 total tackles (5 solo, 4 assisted), which was a WKU individual team bowl record (previous was 8). He also added a team-high 2 PBU.
Nick Dawson-Brents
- Had a career-high 3 sacks, giving him 5.5 in his last 2 games after 1.5 in his first 10 games of the year. The 3 sacks was the most by a WKU player this season.
- Also added 1 PBU, batting down a 4th down pass at the line of scrimmage, and 1 forced fumble.
- Had a career-high 8 total tackles (4 solo, 4 assisted), including 2 TFL and 1.5 sacks. He was named 2014 Popeyes Bahamas Bowl MVP with 2.5 TFL and 2 sacks.
- Had 6 total tackles (5 solo, 1 assisted), including a career-high 2 TFL. He also added 1 PBU.
