BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Pancake Thomas hit a game-tying 3-pointer as time expired in the first extra period, and the WKU men's basketball team outlasted Kentucky Wesleyan for a 103-97 double overtime victory Saturday in exhibition play at E.A. Diddle Arena.
WKU improved to 55-4 all-time in exhibition games with two preseason victories this season under first-year coach Rick Stansbury. The Hilltoppers also defeated Campbellsville 87-79 on Tuesday in exhibition action.
Saturday's victory over Kentucky Wesleyan was WKU's 22nd straight in exhibition tune-ups dating back to a 2002-03 loss to the Harlem Globetrotters.
With the Hilltoppers trailing 93-90 with 5.6 seconds left in the first overtime period, Thomas -- a graduate senior guard -- hit a turnaround 3-pointer falling down to keep the game going.
WKU held Kentucky Wesleyan to four points in the second overtime period and netted 33 of 43 free throws in the game to help seal the victory.
Graduate senior guard Junior Lomomba scored a team-high 29 points for the Hilltoppers with six rebounds, while Thomas had 24 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Junior forward Justin Johnson tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds, and senior forward Ben Lawson also notched a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Graduate senior Que Johnson scored 14 points.
Thomas, Lomomba and Que Johnson all played at least 45 minutes in the extended game.
KWC's Ken-Jah Bosley scored 42 points with eight made 3s, but he was held scoreless in the second overtime.
WKU opens the regular season at home against Alabama State at 7 p.m. Nov. 12. The game is a campus-site contest as part of the Global Sports Classic, which takes the Hilltoppers to Las Vegas for two games later in the month.
