BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Head coach John Pawlowski and the WKU Baseball program will host a pair of Topper Select Camp sessions Sunday, Jan. 22 at the newly-renovated Nick Denes Field. This is a great opportunity to be seen and instructed by the WKU coaching staff while competing on one of the best collegiate facilities in the country.
The Hitting session runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., which includes fundamental and advanced instruction to focus on swing mechanics, WKU's hitting routines and techniques, and bunting mechanics.
The Pitcher-Catcher-Defensive session runs from 2-5 p.m. Pitchers will have individual instruction and learn about WKU's pitching philosophy with extensive drill sets, as well as learning about arm care programs and injury prevention.
Catchers will have individual instruction and will take live bullpen sessions, which will allow players to fine-tune their catching stances and mechanic talk, there will also be defensive drills to work on proper blocking and throwing techniques.
In the Defensive part of the camp, the Toppers coaching staff will lead drill work and instruction to focus on the fundamentals of infield and outfield play, including proper routes and jumps to the ball, as well as footwork and other routines.
The Topper Select Camp sessions are open to 9th-12th graders on a first-come, first-served basis. Each camper must bring their own baseball gear, including a glove, bat, helmet, hat, running shoes or turf shoes, cleats and any other equipment they feel necessary to compete. Catchers must bring their own gear and absolutely NO metal spikes are allowed.
A WKU certified athletic trainer will be on-site for the entire camp and all camper must complete and bring in the waiver form at the time of check-in.
The cost of camp is $95 for the Hitting session and $75 for the Pitcher-Catcher-Defensive session, but those who wish to sign up for both will receive a Combo price of $150, saving $20. Prospective players must complete the online registration prior to arrival.
