BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU men's golf head coach Phillip Hatchett announced Monday the signing of Dawson McDaniel to a national letter of intent for the 2017-18 season.
McDaniel comes to the Hill after a standout career at nearby South Warren High School.
"Dawson McDaniel is one of the finest young men I have had the opportunity to be around," Hatchett said. "Having spent time working on his game with him until he entered high school, I know firsthand the kind of talent he possesses. Playing as well as he has on the national stage the last two years and shooting exceptionally low scores shows he has the tools at his disposal to be a huge impact player for us.
"I am thrilled he is coming to join us on the Hill. He will be an awesome asset to our team in every way for years to come."
McDaniel won the 3rd Region Golf Tournament as a senior with a bogey-free score of 65, then went on to tie for eighth at the KHSAA state tournament and was named second-team all-state. He finished his senior season with an under-par scoring average of 71.6.
McDaniel's debut round on the American Junior Golf Association tour was an 8-under 64, earning him fully exempt status for the tour. He has had three other top-10 finishes on the AJGA tour and has also won three tournaments on the Golfweek Junior Tour.
McDaniel was named to the KHSAA All-Academic Team all four years of high school and was awarded the Leachman Buick GMC Scholarship at the KHSAA state tournament, which is given to one senior who displays excellence in academic achievement, leadership, citizenship, and sportsmanship.
McDaniel joins Glasgow High School product Chase Landrum in the Hilltoppers' signing class.
