CINCINNATI, Ohio -- A pair of top five finishes from sophomore Georgina Blackman and senior Ellinor Haag paced the WKU Women's Golf team to a fourth place showing, with a 50-over 914 (312-302-300) team score at the UC Bearcats Fall Classic hosted by the par-72, 6,186-yard TPC River's Bend.
It was the best showing of the fall by the team and both Blackman and Haag, who head coach Adam Gary said returned to form at this event.
"Those two were tremendous players for us last season and they are playing back to their potential right now," Gary said. "It was especially good to see our team rounds go down over the course of the event. That shows we were learning the course and understanding where we could and couldn't take a few risks."
Blackman fired a seven-over 223 (77-74-72) while Haag went eight-over 224 (78-74-72). Haag tied for fifth with Louisville's Shannon Gramley.
Sophomore Emily Alexander had one of her better events as a Lady Topper as the Kentucky native tied for 15th overall with an 18-over 234 (82-75-77). Senior Michaela Bordeianu gave WKU their fourth top-20 finisher as she came in 19th overall with a 20-over 236 (77-79-80).
Sophomore Katie Story, the third sophomore in the five-man grouping, came in 28th with a 25-over 241 (80-82-79). Junior Daniela Galassi played as an individual and finished tied for 32nd with a 28-over 244 (82-81-81).
The Lady Toppers are back on the course on Oct. 19 when they travel down to take part in Middle Tennessee's Blue Raider Invitational, held at the Old Fort Golf Club.
