Team Records and Series Notes
- Captains for WKU were Tyler Higbee, Nick Holt, Forrest Lamp and Wonderful Terry. WKU won the toss and received.
- WKU improves to 4-1, while Rice falls to 2-3.
- WKU is 2-0 in conference play for the second time in the FBS era and first since 2012 when WKU began Sun Belt play 2-1.
- The 4-1 start to the season is the best since starting 2012 5-1.
- The win also marked the first time in FBS era and first time since 2006 where WKU won its first home and road conference games in the same season.
- The Hilltoppers' 49-10 win was its largest margin of victory in a conference game since defeating Western Illinois 45-3 in 2005. It also represented the largest margin of victory in a conference game in the FBS era.
Team Notes.
- WKU's first touchdown of the game came on a 3-play, 75-yard drive, while the third score was on a one-play drive. The Hilltoppers now have seven scoring drives of the year for the Hilltoppers that were under a minute.
- WKU scored on a flea flicker for the second straight week as Doughty hit Grant for the touchdown in the opening quarter.
- The Hilltoppers posted over 230 yards of total offense in the first quarter for their second consecutive game as WKU had 240 in the opening period.
Player Notes
- With his 409 passing yards, senior quarterback Brandon Doughty moved his season total to 2,000, which is good for the seventh-most in a single season by a WKU quarterback after just five games.

- Doughty has thrown a touchdown pass in 19 straight games, the second-longest active streak in FBS behind TCU's Trevone Boykin with 20.
- Doughty has recorded a completion of 30 or more yards in 16 straight games.
- Doughty has now thrown for at least 400 yards in six of his last seven games and four-straight.
- Doughty just missed throwing for at least 350 yards by halftime for the fifth time in his career as he finished the first half with 343 yards and four touchdowns.
- With the 38 passing attempts, Doughty moved into second all-time at WKU in career pass attempts with 1,144.
- Doughty now has 15 passing touchdowns on the season, which ties for fifth in school history in a single season. Doughty is the only quarterback to be in the Top 10 in the category in three separate seasons.
- Garrett Schwettman has split the uprights on 73 consecutive PATs, the second-longest streak in WKU history. He is the only kicker to post two streaks of 50+ as he held a run of 59 straight from 10/11/12-11/2/13
- Taywan Taylor, who entered the game as the leading receiver in C-USA, finished the game with 84 yards on six catches and added a touchdown. For the year, Taylor leads WKU with 571 yards and has five touchdowns.
- Wonderful Terry recorded his first interception of the season, which was the fourth forced turnover of his career and first he had not returned for a touchdown.
- Prince Charles Iworah got his second interception of the year and Nick Newton recovered his first fumble of the season.
- Dangerfield caught his 14th-career touchdown, moving into a tie for seventh in WKU history.

- Dangerfield just missed posting his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game as he finished with a team-high 95 yards and eight catches.
- Returner Kylen Towner moved into seventh in WKU history in career kick-return yards with 894.
- Darmontre Warr scored the first rushing touchdown of his career in the fourth quarter.
