BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- After dropping Game 2 of the Fall World Series, Team Red rebounded by racking up 11 hits in Game 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the series after an 8-3 victory on Thursday night.
A big fourth inning would seal the fate for red as the team pushed five runs on the board to take the lead and never looked bad. Team Red's starter RHP Connor McHugh surrendered three runs in his 4.0 innings pitched, while Cameron Shryock, John Harman and Ben Morrison shutout Team Black in the final five frames to preserve the win.
In the fourth, Team Red registered six hits, including doubles by Brandon Pollock and Paul Murray, to surge to a 5-3 lead heading into the fifth. Ty Downing, Pollock, Cole Womack, Tyler Willinger, who finished the game with a pair of RBI, and Murray all scored in the productive inning for Team Red. The scoring would continue in the following two innings as red produced a run in the bottom of the fifth and a pair in the sixth.
Team Black jumped out to a lead in the third after Leiff Clarkson's single brought home Grant Malott to give black a 1-0 lead. The score moved to 3-0 in favor of black in the fourth as Kaleb Duckworth and Harrison Scanlon each scored and doubled in the inning, but the black squad could not muster any more runs after that frame.
Freshman RHP Caleb Bruner got the ball for Team Black, going 3.2 innings before handing the ball to RHP Jared Wilson for 2.1 innings. RHP Micah Kaczor made his second appearance of the Fall World Series and was able to hold Team Red scoreless in his two innings of relief.
Game 4 is set to start at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday from Nick Denes Field, followed by Game 5 on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. CT. All of the Fall World Series games are free to the public.
