MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Ellinor Haag and Georgina Blackman each finished in the top 20 for WKU, and the Lady Toppers earned their third top-five team finish of the fall by taking fifth at the Blue Raider Invitational on Tuesday.
WKU finished at 63-over 927 (310-309-308) for the tournament and was just five shots out of third place. Middle Tennessee swept both the team and the individual honors at its home event, as the Blue Raiders finished at 19-over 883 (298-292-293) to win by 29 strokes over Troy. Avery George claimed medalist honors for Middle Tennessee with a two-over 218 (71-69-78).
"Our team score improved each round and we played a very competitive tournament," head coach Adam Gary said. "Ellinor and Georgina were strong for us throughout the event and we were proud of our performance as a team."
Haag turned in her third top-10 finish of the fall with a 10-over 226 (77-74-75) to finish tied for seventh, while Blackman placed in the top 20 for the second straight event, tying for 18th with a 14-over 230 (80-75-75).
Daniela Galassi and Emily Alexander were next up for the Lady Toppers, tying for 25th and 39th, respectively. Galassi went 77-80-77 for an 18-over 234 during the course of the tournament, and Alexander finished at 21-over 237 (76-80-81).
Rounding out the card for WKU was Michaela Bordeianu, who tied for 84th after a 38-over 254 (86-85-83). Katie Story also competed as an individual for the Lady Toppers and made one of the biggest jumps up the leaderboard during the final round, finishing tied for 61st with a 27-over 243 (90-78-75).
WKU will be back in action next week as the team heads to Bradenton, Fla., to compete in the Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU.
