BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU men's golf will host the WKU Kenny Perry Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at The Club at Olde Stone, welcoming 11 other teams from across the nation for the three-round tournament.
This will be the third year that the Hilltoppers have hosted the event dating back to 2012. WKU placed fifth overall in 2012 before the tournament took a hiatus in 2013, and the team earned a second-place finish last season.
Teams will begin teeing off at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning for the opening round on the par-72, 7,319-yard course. Both the first and second rounds are scheduled to be played on Monday, and the third round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Hilltoppers are set to send Blake Smith, Trey Aguirre, Bryant Evans, Billy Tom Sargent and Austin King into the tournament on their five-man card. In addition, Stuart Easton, Scotty Hudson and Nick Thompson are scheduled to compete as individuals in the event.
WKU has earned a pair of top-10 team finishes in its two events thus far in the fall, capturing eighth place at the Memphis Intercollegiate on Sept. 22 and placing seventh overall at the Firestone Invitational on Oct. 6. Individually, Smith, a freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., has finished in the top 25 in both tournaments to lead the Hilltoppers, while Evans tied for 24th at the Memphis Intercollegiate.
The invitational draws its name from Kenny Perry, a WKU men's golf letterwinner from 1979-82 who turned pro following his collegiate career. During his illustrious professional career, Perry has tallied 14 PGA Tour wins and seven Champions Tour wins. He was named the 2013 Champions Tour Player of the Year and is a 1994 Hall of Fame inductee into the WKU Hall of Fame.
