MEMPHIS - In the third and final round of the Memphis Intercollegiate on Tuesday, the WKU men's golf team turned in a 307 and finished with a 30-over 894, good for ninth place in their first event of the fall.
Senior Cameron Beal shot a seven-over 79 on the day and led the Hilltoppers with a five-over 221 (73-69-79), tying for 20th place. In all, each of the five Hilltoppers shot their highest round of the event on Tuesday.
Senior Brandon Beckham tied for 24th overall, shooting the best round of the day for WKU, a one-over 73 and finished one stroke behind Beal with a six-over 222 (78-71-73). Sophomore Colin Frizzell tied for 45th with a 10-over 226 (74-74-78). It was his best result of his collegiate career after finishing 52nd at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular as a freshman.
Trey Aguirre, the third senior on the five-man squad, tied for 48th place with an 11-over 227 (77-73-77) while junior Taylor Thompson tied for 65th with an 18-over 234 (76-76-82).
Conference USA member LA Tech took home the team title with a seven-over 871 team score while Mississippi State's Ben Wood bested LT's Victor Lange by one stroke for the individual medal with a five-under 211 (71-69-71).
WKU is back on the course Sept. 29 and 30 as they stay in-state to take part in the Louisville Cardinal Intercollegiate.
