BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Baseball has earned the fifth seed in the Sun Belt Conference Championship and will face fourth-seeded Texas State in the opening game Wednesday, the league announced Saturday night. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. (CT) at Stanky Field in Mobile, Ala.
The Hilltoppers finished the regular season with an overall record of 29-26 and wound up at an even .500 in conference action at 15-15. WKU will face off with a Texas State team that took two of three from the Hilltoppers in Bowling Green during March’s meeting. The Bobcats capped their regular season with a 28-26 record and a 16-14 clip in league action.
WKU is 34-38 all-time in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and will aim for its first tournament title since 2008. Should WKU win its opening game against Texas State, it would go on to face the winner of top-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette and No. 8 ULM Thursday at 4 p.m. If the Hilltoppers lose, they will battle the loser of the Cajuns-Warhawks matchup in an elimination game Thursday at 9 a.m.
The double-elimination formatted tournament begins play on Wednesday, May 21 at 9:00 a.m. and will be conducted over five days culminating with the Championship Game on Sunday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. CT. All games will be available via webstream on the Sun Belt Digital Network. The championship game will be aired on the Sun Belt Network and ESPN3.
Championship festivities get underway on Tuesday night with Championship Family Night, a celebration of this season’s accomplishments both on and off the field for the student-athletes in attendance. There will be a home run derby, autograph session and much more for those planning on being in attendance.
