BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University softball senior Olivia Watkins was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region Third Team, as announced by the organization this week.
The honor comes on the heel of a stellar final campaign for the second baseman, as Watkins shattered numerous single-season records she set just last season at WKU, including batting average (.442), runs (51), hits (87), multi-hit game (26) and stolen bases (55). Watkins leads the nation in stolen bases while she is 16th nationally in batting average.
The Florence, Ala., native is a two-time First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection while it is the second-straight year Watkins was named to a NFCA All-Region team. Watkins was one of six Sun Belt Conference student-athletes to earn recognition in the Central region and one of 10 in the overall selections.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
The 2014 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 28, via NFCA.org.
