Seminole Intercollegiate Final Results
TALLAHASSEE, FLA./HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA. -- Both sides of the WKU men's golf team wrapped up tournaments in Florida over the weekend at the Seminole Intercollegiate and Mission Inn Spring Spectacular.
In Tallahassee, the Florida State-hosted Seminole Intercollegiate saw the Hilltoppers finish in 13th place, posting a 910 team score which included round-by-round improvement from the Tops. Friday's first round saw the team shoot a 307 while Saturday's condensed 36-hole day was a 306 and 297 showing for the Red and White.
Trey Aguirre led the way for WKU, shooting a 227 (77-78-72), finishing in a tie for 49th overall. Keith Tooley, Jr., was two strokes behind Aguirre, finishing in a tied for 53rd as he shot a 229 (78-75-76) while Cameron Beal finished in 57th with a 230 (78-77-75).
Nate Johnson's 238 (83-76-79) put him at No. 68 on the leaderboard while Brandon Beckham's 148 including a second round scorecard error that put him at No. 75 overall.
Mercer won the event, snapping a two-year run by host Florida State, with an 856 (282-279-295) team score, led by No. 2 overall finisher Hans Reimers' 211 (70-68-73). South Florida's Trey Valentine was the individual medalist, shooting a 210 (71-71-68) for the weekend.
Over at Howey-In-The-Hills, the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, hosted by George Mason, saw the Tops finish in 9th place overall.
The 36-hole event saw WKU shoot a 937 (306-312-319) while Virginia Tech won both the team and individual medals, shooting 875 as a team with Trevor Cone going for 211 (67-73-71) on the par-72, 6,884-yard course.
Austin King led WKU individually, shooting 227 (77-72-78), as he finished in a tie for 15th place.
Final individual scores were not immediately made available from the tournament. However, after yesterday's second round, Colin Frizzell was in 38th place with a 155 (75-80), Andy Gladden at 43 with a 156 (75-81), Conor Griffiths at 54 with a 159 (79-80) and Nick Thompson rounded out the scoring with a 166 (86-80) to finish at No. 80.
